The good news is that you can combat the symptoms of water retention with the teas we present below. Read on to find out what they are!
Medicinal plants that prevent the symptoms of water retention
Water retention causes a feeling of heaviness and discomfort. Certain parts of the body swell, and when we look in the mirror it seems that we have gained weight.
These phenomena occur as a result of hormonal fluctuations (premenstrual syndrome, for example), but can also be a consequence of sedentary lifestyle. Other causes are: disease, heart and liver disease, high blood pressure, stress and side effects of certain medications.
1. Boldo tea
To improve water retention it is advisable to drink two teas of boldo leaves a day. The effectiveness of boldo leaves is due to the content of alkaloids such as isoquinoline and quinolizidine. They stimulate blood circulation.
Add six boldo leaves to a cup of hot water. Let them infuse for five minutes, then drink a small amount at breakfast, and the rest after the most hearty meal of the day.
2. Dandelion tea
Dandelion is excellent for detoxifying the body, and the flowers of this plant can be used to make teas, but also as an ingredient in salads.
Dandelion helps to eliminate excess fluid from the body, the proper functioning of the kidneys and the cleansing of the blood. It is a wonderful plant.
To combat water symptoms, we recommend drinking two dandelion teas a day, one in the morning for breakfast and one in the afternoon.
To prepare the infusion, all you have to do is add a few leaves or flowers to the hot water. Strain the liquid and drink it slowly. The results will surely satisfy you.
3. Green tea
Green tea is another wonderful detoxifying drink that can increase urine production. It helps eliminate toxic substances from the body, but also reduces inflammation and combats water retention. It is extremely beneficial!
It is recommended to drink up to three cups of green tea a day. You can find it in many stores, being easy to buy. If you choose to sweeten it with honey, instead of sugar, it will be even healthier.
4. Horsetail tea
Have you ever heard of the benefits of this plant? It is found in health food stores and sometimes even in pharmacies. Horsetail is rich in minerals, especially silicon, potassium and magnesium. It is an excellent diuretic and detoxifying agent, a natural remineralizer and astringent and, in addition, fights diarrhea.
You can’t help but enjoy all these benefits. It is advisable to drink horsetail tea twice a day, adding a teaspoon of the plant to a cup of water. If you add a little licorice or mint, it will taste better.
Let the tea brew for five minutes, then drink it slowly. If you consume it regularly, you will notice that it gives you a much better state of health.
5. Birch leaf tea
Birch leaves are rich in potassium, an element that has a diuretic effect on the body and helps eliminate the feeling of heaviness in the body. You can buy birch leaves from health food stores. They are also recommended in the treatment of urinary tract infections.
We recommend drinking a cup or two of tea a day, one for breakfast and one in the afternoon. Add a tablespoon of the plant to a cup of hot water and let the liquid infuse for five minutes. This tea has a delicious taste and will improve your health and digestion. Don’t hesitate to try it.
Recommendations to prevent water retention symptoms
To prevent water retention symptoms, you should limit or completely avoid salt intake. Instead, you can season the food with various other spices, vinegar, lemon, garlic and onion.
Eat as many vegetables as possible: zucchini, tomatoes, asparagus and artichokes. Eat bananas (they are rich in potassium), beans and complex carbohydrates (rice, pasta and so on).
Drink at least two liters of water a day. If you are not attracted to plain water consumption, you can add a little lemon juice to give it a better taste. And, above all, don’t forget to exercise every day for at least an hour: walk, ride a bike…
Your health is worth the effort!
